When your children start arguing, do you immediately act as the judge, declare a winner, and separate them? Rescuing them from conflict teaches them to rely on adults to fix their social problems. Today, transition from being a "judge" to being a "mediator." Stand close to ensure physical safety, but force them to speak to each other. Give them the script: "I feel [emotion] when you [action]." Make them negotiate the solution while you supervise the safety.
