Carla's Tactical Check-In

Do you try to "power through" an event because you paid for tickets, even when your child is showing clear signs of distress? Pushing a dysregulated nervous system past its breaking point guarantees a massive meltdown. Today, establish an exit strategy before you arrive. Identify a quiet "safe zone" upon entry (like a calm corner or your car). If they hit their sensory limit, leave immediately without guilt or lectures. Protecting their nervous system is more important than finishing the festival.

The fastest way to reduce event-based anxiety is to eliminate the element of surprise. Click through to grab these visual planning templates. Before you leave the house, map out the entire event together: where you are going, what it will sound like, what you will do, and exactly when you will leave. Giving a child a visual roadmap of the day anchors their nervous system in predictability.
