Carla's Tactical Check-In

When your child expresses anxiety about an upcoming event, do you immediately say, "Don't worry, there's nothing to be afraid of!"? While well-intentioned, this instantly invalidates their very real physical feelings of fear, forcing them to worry alone. Today, validate the feeling first, then shift to empowerment. Say, "I can see your body is feeling nervous about school today. It is okay to feel scared. What is one brave thing we can do together to make it easier?"
