Do you tell your child, "Just give me a minute" or "We are leaving soon"? Time is entirely abstract to a developing brain. Telling them to wait "five minutes" feels like an eternity because they cannot visualise it. Today, make time physical. Instead of giving arbitrary numbers, say, "I will play with you as soon as this sand timer runs out," or "We leave when the big hand points to the 12." Externalising time instantly reduces their anxiety around waiting.
