When your child asks a "Why?" question, do you instantly act as the human search engine and give them the exact fact? Stepping in with the answer immediately robs them of the cognitive heavy lifting. Today, when they ask how something works, bounce it back to them. Say, "That is a brilliant question. How do you think it works?" Let them wrestle with the unknown. Praise the creativity of their guess, not just the accuracy of the answer.
