Do you force your child to immediately say "I'm sorry" when they upset another child? Forcing an apology before a child understands why they are apologising breeds resentment, not empathy. Today, shift your focus from the apology to the impact. Say, "Look at your brother's face. He is crying. How do you think his body is feeling right now?" Guide them to independently recognise the emotional impact of their actions, which naturally leads to genuine repair.
